More than 80,000 mourners marched in the rain to honor the victims of the Triangle Fire.
The March 25, 1911 fire in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in Manhattan killed 146 workers--most of them Jewish and Italian teenage girls. The funeral procession and a memorial meeting were first steps toward intensified organizing and lobbying efforts in pursuit of better and safer working conditions.
